I was born here in New York and my family is from the Dominican Republic.
It took me a while to accept my curls. I think in high school it finally happened. I had a fro, then I felt good to finally cut it all off. Even when I was about to cut it everyone was like, no, your fro is your signature. It’s funny for that to be a thing when it takes so long, I think, to feel like your natural hair can be beautiful in this society.
