Beauty Of The Day: Buli Mazwi

image7-2Introduce yourself.

My name is Buli Mazwi, born and raised in the south of Johannesburg, South Africa. I’m most importantly a Daughter of the Most High God. I just completed my first qualification (architectural graduate).  I’m a active and health lifestyle fanatic (self proclaimed ) and quite funny if you really get to know me.

How do you defy society’s typical beauty standards?

Societies typical standard of beauty is the long haired, light skinned, tiny waist, curvy, “baddest” girl in town. We’ll be lucky if she keeps her clothes on in pictures.  If she’s anything close to looking like a girl from Taz’s Angels Clique then she’s beautiful. Perhaps the problem is not necessarily these girls’ beauty, but the fact that society disqualifies every other woman who doesn’t tick those boxes.

It was a constant conversation with myself to make sure that I take care of myself and body, and if I look good, I’m doing it for myself.

What inspires your style?

Simplicity and authenticity inspires my style. Nothing makes me so uninspired as seeing the same look worn 50,000 times by different people. I follow people who have a unique style or taste. The more I see them excelling in who they are, I’m inspired to be more authentic.

image4-3What are your go-to beauty products?

My Go To beauty products are: My carrot facial scrub and Facial Cleanser.  Does petroleum Jelly ( Vaseline ) count as a beauty product ? I use it everyday.  MAC foundation, Skin Strategy Rejuvenating Face Mask, lipstick, mascara, and a whole lot of different hair products, namely moisturizer and hair food.

What makes you feel most beautiful?

What makes me feel most beautiful is when my hair is done. Whether it may be braids or a weave, it doesn’t matter.  As long as my hair is done .

Would you say you’re 100% comfortable in your own skin at this point in your life? How so or why not?

I am comfortable in my own skin but because I have body goals that I have not reached yet, based on that I would have to say I’m not 100% comfortable. If something is not right I tend to want to fix it and workout extra hard and try get it right.  I’m not hard on myself though. I will get there eventually . (The desire for abs is still at the top of my list). Some people say I’m crazy but it’s just who I am .
