My name is D’mani DeVoe but my friends and loved ones call me Mani. I reside in Atlanta where I recently graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Journalism.
I am a fashion blogger and publicist bound for NY this summer to follow my dreams.
Growing up I was told my complexion wasn’t beautiful, I attended a predominantly white elementary school where I was picked on for my lips and how I wore my hair. It never phased me though because my mother and father not only told me I was beautiful everyday but they told me it was those very features that made me beautiful.
How do you defy society’s typical beauty standards?
I defy beauty standards because I embrace my complexion, full figure, and so much more. I aspire to encourage little brown girls everywhere to do the same.
How have you come to recognize your beauty and power over the years?
Over the years I’ve come to realize beauty is so much more than the exterior. It has a lot to do with how you make people feel and I take pride in the impact and impressions I leave on people.
What inspires your style?
My style is forever evolving but I’ve always incorporated a 90s flare in my style. I love that era.
What are your go-to beauty products?
My go to beauty products are Maybeline’s Fit Me foundation. For anyone with sensitive skin I highly suggest this. Honey masks and eucerin sunscreen are great for hyperpigmentation.
What makes you feel most beautiful?
Oddly enough, short hair makes me feel beautiful and tans in the summertime.
Would you say you’re 100% comfortable in your own skin at this point in your life?
I’d say I’m 100% comfortable in my skin. I’ve always been really goofy and while I am confident in my physical I also enjoy knowing I can make people around me laugh.
