My name is Jade Alexis. I’m 18. One thing I’ve had to overcome is the saying, “you’re pretty for a black girl.” What does that mean? Why does it have to be I’m pretty for a black girl instead of just, I’m pretty?
My mother and my grandmother inspire me. I just feel like people underestimate black women so much. And when you prove to them that you are so much more and you can do stuff that they think you can’t do, that’s what empowers me. You just gotta prove them wrong.
