As a black woman, I would have to say, I’ve overcome a lot of adversities as far as my career field. I’m a criminal justice major. There’s always a nose turned up at me for 1, being a woman and 2, being a black woman trying to be a police officer. I try to just beat the odds and I try not to let people deter me from what I really want to do, because at the end of the day, I’m going to do that while continuing to let every black woman know that they are beautiful.
Our own people at times turn their noses up at me because I want to be a police officer, because you know, the prejudices toward the black community from police officers. But that’s not every police officer. Maybe I can do something about it to change it.
Law & Order
Watching a lot of SVU and Law and Order made we want to be a police officer. I genuinely want to help people and I want to focus more on juvenile delinquency because it starts with the youth. A lot of them don’t have guidance and that’s why they act the way they do, so I want to just help.
I want to start off as a police officer to get law enforcement experience, but eventually I do want to work myself up to either a detective or something in Homeland Security. Then I have a minor in Spanish.
