Real Beauty Moment: I Wear My Voice

Fatima Najah

I’m a fashion designer based in Boston. I’ve been sewing since I was 9 years old, but  I’ve been designing for the past year and a half.  The base of my inspiration is fantasy. I’ll be reading something—fiction or see something fantasy related and then I’ll go off of that.

My main motto for my business is wear your voice. Having that voice we’re not scared to let out—whether it’s wearing my leather jacket or spiked heels, or I want to be really cute—it’s something I really like to experiment with.

When it comes to designing I guess it’s the one thing that calms me down. It helps me think about things, go through things thoroughly in my head.

Describe the inspiration behind the ‘Grim Reaper’ inspired dress:

Model in ‘Grim Reaper’ inspired design

The dress is from my Kanji collection-Kanji is angel in Japanese. Everything off that collection is based off angels. The dress took me three full days to design and create,  and is based off the angel of death, or the Grim Reaper, but with elegance. It’s about $300-$400.

Along with fantasy I like to incorporate cultures—whether it’s in style or fabric, throughout different collections and other pieces you’ll see Greek inspirtaions, African inspirations, Indian, and Japanese.
