There comes a point in every young woman’s life when you realize that it is time to think seriously about the type of friends you want, and the type of friend you want to be.
In the last decade I have been a student, a traveler, and a full-time employee. Along the way I have met people who have had a significant impact on my life–some that stand out in my mind and others I still cherish. Some friendships are forever, and some will fizzle out, but there are the ones every girl should experience at some point in her life.
She’s your “person,” your best friend, and your sister. She knows too much about you ever since you were children. She is the one who has been through thick and thin with you and will always be in your life. She is your soul sister. Longtime intimates are special for many reasons. They knew you and your family while you were growing up and likely have many memories and stories of you that no one else does.
She is your work bestie. You go to lunch together, you are always chatting on the company’s messenger, and you have explored every single happy hour spot in the city. You know that she will be your friend for life even if you get a new job.
“Always up for a good time” friend
Even if you aren’t best friends, this girl will get you out of your comfort zone and encourage you to lighten up and take risks. She’s also the person who will open your mind to all the strange ideas the world has to offer. You can’t imagine your social life without her, because you can truly count on her to be down for whatever and right by your side.
Brutally honest friend
Have you ever been shopping and tried on a dress that you know looked horrible but your friends still told you that you looked amazing? The honest friend won’t do that. When you want some no-holds-barred advice, go to your honest friend. She is not afraid to spell it out for you and tell you how she really feels about the situation.
Your boy. Your sidekick. He is your best guy friend who decided to accept and love you unconditionally. He is your go-to person when you are in trouble, when you want to have a good time, and when you need guy advice or when you simply can’t keep up with all the ‘girls’ drama.
