I’ve been plus size pretty much my whole life and now that it’s becoming more mainstream, it’s getting a little bit easier for me to be myself but before I had the hardest time ever to deal with it. I’m from Barbados. Just growing up in the Caribbean too, my family is always like, ‘oh you’re getting so fat,’ and stuff like that I always had to deal with.
From the Islands to America
The transition from Barbados to the U.S. was really a big change for me. And having to adjust to a different culture being Americanized. A part of me feels like I’ve lost my culture so I usually go back home every year just so I can be able to maintain. It’s so easy to get caught up in this American mindset this American way of living so I tend to go back every year just to stay stable and sane and not lose myself.
Beauty goals
I’ve been blond for almost a year now. I did like a really big chop so I was literally bald. I’m 26 now. I want to be 30 with platinum locs, so I’ve been using some products to grow my hair out more. I was insecure when I did the chop. It just drew so much attention to my face. So I just use the color mascara to make my eyes pop so I don’t have to do fake eyelashes and stuff like that.
