We all have little ways of making ourselves feel good, whether it’s booking some alone time in the spa, going away on holiday, eating our favorite foods, or buying a new pair of shoes. What if you could boost your mental and physical well-being without spending any money?
This new year, why not make the pledge to find happiness in a more sustainable way? Make 2019 the year that you make your body and mind the priority they deserve to be.
Find some green space
We live such tech based lifestyles; hunched over our screens, staring at smartphones, watching TV, and spending most of our free time indoors. It’s so easy to forget the difference a little bit of nature can make on our lives. This new year make the effort to spend at least 20 minutes in a green space every day. That could be in the garden, out in the park, in the green space nearest the office. You could meet friends for lunch, have a moment to yourself reading in the park, or have a cup of coffee in your garden. Spending time outdoors is proven to reduce stress and lower your heart rate.
Work out
Many of us set fitness goals when a new year comes around, but exercise shouldn’t be seen as a punishment for what you’ve eaten – it should be seen as a celebration of what you can achieve. Having a positive relationship with exercise will make you happier to do it. Aside from the obvious health benefits, exercise helps to clear your mind, lower your stress levels, and it can be a great way to socialize and meet new people.
Get enough sleep
We all know how difficult it can be to get enough sleep. Our minds are often so overloaded with deadlines, worries, thoughts and doubts that it can be difficult to switch off. But if you try to get enough sleep, about seven to eight hours a night, you can benefit from better physical and mental health, having more energy and just an improved quality of life. Try to avoid screens at least 2 hours before bedtime.
Try a new podcast
Why not do yourself a favour and listen to something totally new and enlightening? Listen to a podcast about health, exercise, mental well-being, a comedy series, or a podcast about your favorite TV show. You could expand your mind with a whole new range of topics!
