I have a Youtube channel. I do fashion and lifestyle videos. I do it with my sister. I think what we had to overcome was just us putting ourselves out there. As a black woman, especially in the vlogging industry, we’re very scarce. Even then when they blog, it’s very in a box. They stick to the ideas of what a black woman [is supposed to dress like]. We try to broach different demographics. I think that’s what we had to overcome.
One of my happiest moments was when Coach reached out to us and they wanted to work with us. We thought that was a major thing. It was nerve wracking because it’s Coach. They sent us a wristlet and they wanted us to promote it in a way that was seamless so we had to figure out how to fit it into our audience and not sound too ‘adsy.’ You have specific things you need to follow and it’s a contract. So we had to get over that.
